      New game, not the same

This is why we need to thoroughly read the product specs before buying. I was hoping to get the card game to practice conversation skills with students. In the past, the card game would have you choose from actions for a scenario from a list, and then you would see what you should actually do in a worst-case scenario as well as how the individual would do. This new game with almost the same name has you guess how an individual would rank scenarios in terms of how bad they are (similar to games like Apples to Apples, trying to discern the person to win). I'm sorry, but that's really lame. It doesn't teach us anything about survival and why would I care how someone ranks a scenario? Maybe we'll all agree something's the worst, yay! And then we'll die.Now this is my fault for not realizing they created a new game (with a very similar name). I was excited to get it for my classes. Instead, I'll disregard the game intended and use the cards for conversation and writing prompts. For example, "What if you discover human remains buried in your basement? What would you do?" That would certainly spark some conversation, wouldn't it? Now I'm warming up to the cards sans the game.

      Easy-to-learn Party Game

The idea of "Worst-Case Scenario" is that you're dealt 5 cards with less-than-pleasant situations and you need to rank them from first to worst. Then, everyone else in the party will rank them as well, according to how they think you ranked them. Matched rankings score points. Most points wins. Simple! The situations are all distasteful but "family friendly" -- no "adult" or obscene or violent situations. (If there are some that I missed, they could be easily discarded and no one would ever know the difference.) This makes it safe to play with kids (probably 10+), youth groups, etc... without being boring for adults. The replay value is seemingly limitless, as the likelihood of having the same situations crop up would be next to nil. HOWEVER, the simplicity of the game is also a double-edged sword, as it's great for short spurts but won't hold people's attention for long periods of time. Total game play is less than 1/2 hour and by the time it's over, our group has been done with it.Overall, it's an easy game to pull out and teach people who will be having fun in the first round. It's good for a few laughs and then you'll be on to something else.

Get to Know Your Family and Friends Better

Okay, there are many ways you can use the cards in this kit but it was fascinating to learn what the actual fears of our family and friends were while playing this game. Things we thought they were most fearful of were not as scary since they had "lived" them already in their minds or even in real life. Totally new scenarios would often be scarier or more intimidating. The logic and explanations were interesting. It wasn't our favorite new game of the season but we did enjoy it and learned more about each other in the process so I will consider it a win. Some of the scenarios are pretty comical, too, which led to some laughs.
