What a great stripper!

5.0 out of 5.0 by Jeffrey L. on May 26, 2017
Irwin generally does a great job with its tools, and this one is an example of a well-made stripper. And trust me - I know strippers. This stripper feels great in the hand, strips-on-command, it's a lot sharper than most strippers you encounter, its hinge is a perfect tension, and it never hangs around looking for a tip. Nicely done!
Great for cutting screws

I purchased this with the only reason being I had to cut a few screws shorter than they were because I made a custom coat rack using cabinet pulls. It had come out nice until I realized the screws on the back would be pushing into the wall. Oops, major oversight. So I was googling about how people do this all the time if the screws stick out so far and found out that yes, you can shorten them and it's actually very easy. All you need is one of these tools. They have screw cutters built in, in various sizes, that let you slice through wickedly thick screws with barely any effort at all. I was shocked how well it worked.Of course yes it strips wires and cuts them and does a bunch of other stuff that I have no idea what it's for or how to use it. But for the simple reason of cutting screws, this was a cheap, awesome way to get it done fast with no mess. No metal shavings from sawing through them, just pop and the end of the screw is off. And it makes sure that it leaves it threaded and not pinched so you can still thread a nut onto it as well.Genius product, at an awesome price. Highly recommend.
Great for occasional use.

They do what they need to do, but I don't like how long they are, personally. I think it's a bit annoying how wide you have to open the handles to load the next wire, and they are not a 'smooth' action either, so it takes a bit of effort. Not an 'all-day' tool I would expect from Irwin, more like an occasional use tool. That said, I'm doing hundreds, perhaps thousands of terminations in a week, so I'm probably overly sensitive.
Great Wire strippers for the great price! Other companies just put their name on it and sell it for 3 times more.

Great wire strippers for it's Price! I've paid $21 for other brand and about $8 for this wire strippers. They came together - and I couldn't find any difference, besides of the rubber handles color. So don't be fooled with the higher price for the "brand name" - They are identical, Why pay more?
Only strippers to order. :)

Awesome wire strippers. I bought these for a stocking stuffer for the husband unit as one of those "tool" gifts I can use too. These are the best wire strippers I've ever used besides some old classics from my grandfather that can no longer be purchased. These are nice, shard, and well aligned so it doesn't take a lot of effort or carefulness to use. Carefree striping. :) These are nice and small enough to work in all kinds of different applications: cars, micro-controllers, house wiring, and so much more. It's the perfect pair for all you needs. These are the strippers you are looking for.
Nothing much to say. The tool does its job as expected.

Purchased to replace old, loose, dull tools in my bag. They get the job done. Not amazing, but certainly not a disappointment, exactly what youd expect from a simple tool. I never got the hang of the strippers, I tend to break strands, but the cutting edges are sharp enough to get the job done. The forward pliers grip allows a fair amount of force transfer, though with how close they are to the stripper teeth you risk damaging the cutter edges but at that point just grab some proper pliers. The terminal crimper is fairly solid, however I have had a few misses/loose crimps that wiggle off the wire. Terminal orientation matters with this style of crimping, and when I take care to line it up properly and give it a double squeeze it tends to seat and bond well. The cutter edges feel like they'll lose their shape if used for anything harder than copper wire, but they're not meant to be dykes. Dont treat em like snips and itll be fine, mine are still sharp and cut 18awg and thinner wire just fine. The hinge is nice and tight, maybe a little too tight as i cant fling them open one handed but Ill take a firm hinge over a loose wobbly one any day. Hinge keeps the two sides square and solid through stripping, cutting and crimping.Id personally say overall they're good for light to medium use. If you use a tool like this all day youll want to look at heavier duty models. I keep them either at my desk or in my general low voltage electronics bag and they havent let me down yet. Great for general electronics repair, and RPi & arduino projects and prototyping.
... old pair for many years but this tool is great so far

I cannot compare to other multi tools of similar nature as until recently I've used an old pair for many years but this tool is great so far. It is supposed to cut, strip, and crimp - that is exactly what it does and it does it very well. Between the low price (compared to similar tools), the nice brand, and great performance, this is a great value.Cutting - the easiest cut I've experienced. It's effortless and I'm pretty sure my 90 year old grandmother with arthritis could still cut wires with this.Stripping - the various different wire gauges are labeled well and makes it easy for anyone to choose the proper level (assuming they know their wire gauge).Crimping - Crimping is easy with this tool. I'm not a crimping expert but it appears that there's two crimping areas. Regardless of my own inexperience crimping, I was able to crimp butt connectors very easily and correctly.Highly recommend these for the cost and quality involved.
