  My 4 year old loves this, could use more paint. NOT washable paint.

  My 4 year old loves using this - she can handle turning it on and off by herself, and just needs a little help with getting the paper in and out under the little tabs. I wish it came with more paint - we've used up 2 of the colors after only 2 (long) painting sessions so we'll have to try to use some other paints. One thing to note - the included paint says in the instructions that it is NOT washable. We were careful to use a smock because of this so I can't say if it will or will not wash out of fabric - but to be honest I don't know why a child's toy comes with non-washable paint! Would be nice if this came with a "brake" option as it takes a while to slow down all the way to a stop and my kids kept wanting to check on the paintings to see if they were "done", but they just had to learn to wait. It's also not the easiest thing in the world to clean - the spinning part and the splash guard are easy to wash, but the base says not to submerge it and it does get very painty, so we just tried to clean that up with a paper towel. All those things considered, I'm still happy with this toy, and my kids are too!

  Fun art toy

  This was a really fun art activity to do with the nieces and nephews (ages 4-20). They loved the effects that spinning the paint onto the "canvas" created.I will say the "canvas" is no more than card stock paper, but I kind of expected that. I kept one aside to trace onto some of my own card stock so I have more "canvases" for future art times. It came with plenty of paint to use this lots of times, as long as you can provide more "canvases".It was a tad tricky getting the hang of it, and a bit messy to clean up, which is why I deducted 1 star, but it was still a lot of fun and I definitely recommend this for a different art experience for kids of all ages.

  Fun art projects for kids 6+ years old ...

  My 12-year-old granddaughter & I like to do craft projects together. It’s a great way to have a close relationship with my grandkids when I’m sitting there playing games & doing projects with them. Even the ones who think they might be too old for something like this are willing to sit down & play around with it to be with me. It’s some of the best times of my life when I can do all this stuff with the kids.This spin art machine kit comes with a splatter guard, 4 bright colored paints, 3 metallic paints, 10 larger differently shaped artboards, 10 smaller differently shaped artboards, 2 white crayons & an instruction manual. The Paint Vortex machine requires 4 AA batteries that aren’t included.The large artboards are 6-inches, the smaller ones are 3½-inches to 4½-inches. They’re heavy cardstock, but not as heavy as what a cereal box is made from. It’s suggested to try other types of paper; even light-colored cardstock, so different effects can be achieved from changing the surface receiving the paint.The paint is non-toxic, but can stain, & they are very small bottles. The first thing I did when I opened one was squeeze it lightly & it promptly shot red paint all over me. It washed right up but I would make sure not to use this around carpeting or important furniture. The bottles will empty rather quickly & since my grandkids are old enough to not require supervision, I’m going to haul out my acrylics so we can use a lot of different colors on the artboards & similar papers. We’ll probably try a piece of cardboard from a cereal box, too.The crayons are used to create different lines, or separations between the colors when the machine is spinning. I think substituting other color crayons or marking pens could create interesting effects.There are a lot of different options to make this machine do more than just plop a few colors on some not very heavy artboards. It might be fun to create a bright design on a small notebook, a key chain, leather earrings, small balsam wood ornaments, stationery, envelope backs & many other uses.The quality is good for the target age, which is children six years & up. There’s enough going on with this to hold a child’s interest for quite some time & they’ll end up with some personal, unique artwork to either keep for themselves or to give away.It’s a fun project for families to do together.

  A lot of fun for kids and parents!

  We tried this out with our oldest daughter and had a lot of fun learning how it works. The set up is rather simple but you will need to provide your own 4 AA batteries. Once you pick out your piece of paper and secure it start up the spin and having fun making you own vortex designs. Recommendations use only a drop of paint at time, start from the center and work your way out, drop in different areas to spread out the paint. Careful about drops made towards the edge most of the paint will get thrown to shield especially on the bigger cards, you might try dropping during the speed up or down of the spinner. The colors are vibrant and the metallic silver, gold, and black add to the primary colors.

  Children Loved It

  My children loved playing with this - its easy for them to make designs and they had a great time. So from their perspective its great. From the parent perspective I'm subtracting a star for a few reasons:* Not a lot of included 'large' paper - there are various shapes/sizes of paper included to spin with, however for some inexplicable reason most of it is fairly small. There are only a few large circles include you can spin with.* Once the paper is used up its annoying to custom cut more to fit ... and you also really need thicker paper, printer paper is a bit too thin* Paint tends to goop down into the unit's basin and is hard to clean from that. It doesn't seem to matter, but just a note. Cleaning the other pieces isn't hard, but they definitely need to be cleaned after 1 or 2 spins.* Included paints are only good for a few spins - most children's paint will work fine, but you'll probably need more soon if your kids like this.
