      Great All-Around Razor

This was one of my first adjustable razors and with a setting of 1 I'm not sure why this razor isn't recommended as THE beginner razor. The 1 setting is incredibly mild and great for against the grain passes, you can do the entire shave with it if you want but it will be slightly more work. Pair this with a derby blade for one of the most mild safety razor experiences if you have sensitive skin.If I had a complaint I'm not sure why the head has to be notched and it's an annoyance to check when changing the blade. I'm guessing it has something to do with tolerances as I can't see what mechanics rely on it.

Got the worst DE shave of my life -- Then the best customer service -- And finally a good shave

H have been DE shaving for some time -- I have some Merkurs (23C, 33C, 38C) and a Rockwell 6S. I have tried the Rockwell 2C and sent it back (it did not shave like the 6S). I decided to try this adjustable because of the ratings it got. It was horrible. I used my Proraso preshave and Proraso cream (green) -- and a new Feather blade -- my standard test configuration. I started it in the "2" setting as I didn't know what to expect -- fully anticipating the need to crank it up to at least 3 (I use the "3" setting with my 6S). I didn't even get to the second pass and the blood was already flowing. I am used to using both heavy and light razors, so the weight and bulk was not the issue. I have not had a bad a result since my very first DE shave with a Feather plastic $12 razor. I am speechless. I looked carefully at the razor after washing it out to make sure everything was aligned properly, that the lines on the head and the body were aligned, and that the settings was correct (all was as it was supposed to be). I simply do not know how this razor can sell ... anyone else have this problem? Is it just me or the razor I was shipped.Last night I substituted a Wilkenson Sword for the Feather blade and set the razor of the "1" setting. I got a decent, it not BBS shave. I will try it with a Persona and an Astra and see if this helps -- but one thing for certain is that this is an extremely aggressive razor even at the "2" setting. After a few more "careful" tries I will decide to keep it or send it back -- but so far, I don't feel it was worth the price.Update -- I must commend Super Safety Razor on their customer support. They contacted me as a result of my review, made some suggestions to alleviate the poor performance, and when things didn't improve, despite trying different blades and settings, are shipping me a new razor to try. I will provide an update as soon as I've had a chance to try it out. Whether this razor works out for me or not, I give Super Safety Razor five stars for standing behind their product.Final Update -- As I noted above, my experience with Super Safety Razors has been great. After trying Astra blades and having another bloody outcome, they shipped me a new razor, which arrived today (In the interim I sent them a photo showing the uneven plate on which the blade rests). I did my standard prep and once again used a new Astra blade, Proraso pre-shave, and Proraso green. It was like day and night. The razor gave me a good, bloodless shave -- quite different from my original experience. I can only hoe that my original experience was an outlier and that quality control on the razor will weed out such deadly tools. Again, thanks to Super Safety Razors for their support. I wll not hesitate to use them again in the future and I encourage all to do the same.

The best damn razor I have ever used

I have been wet shaving for about 3 years now. In that span of time, I have amassed a multitude of safety razors, creams, brushes, pre-shave oils, after shave splashes/lotions, colognes, etc. Wet shaving quickly became a much needed part of my morning routine (I shave every other day), as it provided 20-30 minutes of mental therapeutic bliss. In all honesty, the aromatherapy alone that's associated with the amazing scents of some of these creams/after shaves/colognes and such makes this entire shaving process extremely worthwhile.Which brings me to the Parker Variant. Again, in the 3 years I have been doing this, I have used many different razors - each of them had their pros and cons, and I actually liked quite a few of them. I love my Merkur 34c, I love my EJ De89, I have 2 razors from Maggard razors (the MR11 and MR7 with both the V3 and V2 OC heads) which are phenomenal for the price point, etc. Heck, I even have some inexpensive Chinese razors (Baili TTO - the same one that companies like Vikings Blade sell for like 37 bucks) that I enjoy using from time to time, mostly for traveling. However, despite the fact that I have used ALL of those razors multiple times, I cannot ever remember getting an AMAZING shave with the first use of a razor - but all that changed with my first use of the Parker Variant. After reading the directions that came with the razor, I set it up to be used the following morning after my shower. I used Maggard Razors pre-shave oil, Maggard Razors Brush, Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Cream, and the Parker Variant on setting 2 and a half (my facial hair wasn't long enough to need more blade exposure). Furthermore, while I usually use Feather blades, I decided to use the Shark blades that came with the razor, even though I remembered not liking them the few times I used them. Nothing against them, I just recalled more irritation/nicks and needing more passes after using those blades. Well, I will say that it's a HUGE testament to the Parker Variant how amazing my first pass was with the included Shark blade, because every other time I used that blade the results were subpar. Maybe it's me - maybe I just haven't used Shark blades in a long time, and I have been able to improve my wet shaving skills since then. Either way, the Parker Variant with Shark blades was perfectly fine.So fine in fact, that a normal 3rd pass wasn't even needed. I went for 2 passes, rinsed my face, used some Thayer's Rose Petal Witch Hazel for my after shave splash, and that was that. I got dressed for work, sprayed on some Versace Man Eau Fraiche, my wife (who usually doesn't do this) remarked how great my face looked, and how great I smelled, and I left the house feeling like a freakin' rock star. One more thing - I have used multiple Parker razors in the past as well - none of them are even remotely in the same category as the Variant. Not even close.Sorry for the novella, everyone - I just needed to get off my chest how amazing this thing is. If you are a wet shaving veteran and don't own this razor yet, add it to your collection. You will not be disappointed. If you are a wet shaving newb, or are thinking of getting into it because you are sick of the multi-billion dollar cartridge razor companies pillaging and plundering your bank account (or you just want some morning therapy before you start your day), this is the only razor you will ever need. It's inevitable that you will buy more razors and stuff, as that's just the nature of the wet shaving game, but I will wager that you will keep coming back to your Variant no matter how many other razors you collect.

      Better than el-cheapo

I was previously using a safety razor from Wilkinson Sword and I kept getting a ton of little nicks. I thought it was the blades (Parker). I accidentally dropped it *once* and it was damaged beyond repair. So I searched for something a little more sturdy and found this one. Surprise, all the nicks stopped. This razor holds the blades still and allows me to get a closer shave without the cuts.

      Simply an excellent razor!

I've been using a Merkur Futur for about 15 years and no doubt its a very beautiful razor and technically second to none but its overall package isn't without a couple of complaints. With the ends of blade cap its does tend to take a bit more effort to clean the soap & cut hair from the blade. And the head is quite large so getting under the nose is a problem.I was excited to try the Variant and after a couple of shaves I'm very very impressed. Solidly built, the fit and finish is as good as I've seen on an Merkur. Well balanced easy in the hand.
